Assignment 11 Assessment
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 4
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert) 4
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) 4
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I thought my blog did a good job of explaining how the software works and what the process of using GCPs does to impact the data. However, I had prior knowledge of how to use the software coming into this assignment, so it was nothing I was unfamiliar with. If a student hadn't used the software coming in, they might not have been able to grasp the concepts of geometric correction. Having access to a power point or some other material to help reinforce the concepts of geometric correction could have helped in this initiative.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I found the normalization of data to be an important aspect of this lab and an effective way to transfer the data collected in the field to the computer. I wish the two aspects of the lab were successive. This could have helped visualize the full process better.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I found this assignment to be particularly confusing and had a difficult time registering my feature classes, setting domains and subtypes, and collecting the data. I think working through setting up feature classes with the students would have generated less problematic data.

I found the navigation with the compass confusing due to the fact that we were navigating through the woods and never really had a clear path between points. I thought the first part went well.

I think having one or two groups record really bad data to demonstrate the problems associated with not defining domains and subtypes in collector could be an effective tool in demonstrating their importance to using the software.

I thought the lab did a good job demonstrating the technology used, however a more accurate GPS could've been used to demonstrate the differences in accuracy.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I thought more explanation of the differences and similarities of the coordinate systems before making these maps would've aided in students' understanding of the coordinate systems and what we would use each of them for. I'm a GSP major, so I'm pretty well-versed in coordinate systems, but some of the other students might not have been so maybe an optional coordinate system activity could benefit these students.

I thought more explanation of the differences and similarities of the UAVs would've helped students who hadn't had as much experience with the topic learn more about the capabilities of various UAV platforms.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
Part of the assignment was to comment on the quality of the coordinates used (which was purposefully poor), however, the lack of accuracy with the tools used was not as distinguishable to me because I hadn't anything to compare it to.

Perhaps having the students complete each sampling method to help understand each method through example, rather than just picking one method and assuming the students will learn more on their own about the other methods.
